PRESS RELEASE

J&K High Court Bar Association, Srinagar expresses its serious concern over the passing of Tripple Talaq Bill by the Rajya Sabha and making “triple-talaq” a criminal offence and describes the same as “anti-Muslim” and also repugnant to the safeguards enshrined in the International and Domestic laws, which is bound to further hurt the religious feelings and sentiments of the Muslims of India as well as of the State of J&K, who have been opposing the passing of such a law vociferously.
The Bar Association expects that keeping in view the sensitiveness of the issue and to allay the fears of Muslims of India, the President will withhold his assent to the Bill and instead forward the same to a select committee for scrutiny and examination, so as to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of Muslim Community available to them under law.
The Bar Association, Srinagar, also expresses its concern over the directions issued by the police for furnishing of details of Managing Committees and Imams of Mosques and terms the same as a direct interference with the religious affairs of the Muslim Community and thus unjustified and uncalled for. The Bar Association feels that the aforesaid directive is discriminatory in as much as it singles out the Muslim Community and subjects it to an unfair treatment, which is contrary to the concept of freedom of religion enshrined under law.
